Our history
The story of Mas del Vilà goes back much further than the creation of the present-day brand. The roots of our family tradition date to the late 1920s, around the time of the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition.
Our paternal great-grandparents, Pere Massó Gaudí and Teresa Vidal Benach, opened an oil and soap shop on Barcelona's Gran Via, where they sold products connected with the Baix Camp and the family's tradition.
Transport and distribution were also part of the family business. During the 1930s, Massó Oils and Soaps products were delivered throughout Barcelona, maintaining a close relationship with customers and local retailers.
A few years later, around 1940, the family continued this tradition by running Colmado Nogués on Barcelona's Avinguda Gaudí, a well-known grocery store during the post-war years, remembered for its wide range of products and popular promotions.
Meanwhile, on our mother's side, Anton Vidal Mas —known as Ton del Mas Vilà— and Maria Gispert Masip cultivated and cared for the olive and hazelnut trees and managed the agricultural activity of the family estate in Vinyols.
In 2011, more than eighty years later, Montse and Josep Maria decided to revive and continue this family legacy. In particular, they wished to honour the memory of Ton Vidal —the Vilà— by expanding and caring for the olive groves in Vinyols and taking the next step: milling the olives from the family estates and bottling the resulting oil under the Mas del Vilà name.
Our first commercially released harvest in 2012 marked the beginning of a new chapter. The warm response from customers, including many from elsewhere in Europe, encouraged us to grow and to introduce other olive-derived products and artisan specialities from producers we trust.
Our olive groves and Arbequina
Today we continue to care for our family olive groves and produce our Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil from our own harvest, grown on our estates in Vinyols i els Arcs and Les Borges del Camp.
We closely follow the entire process, from caring for the trees and harvesting the olives to milling and bottling. The olives are processed to obtain a cold-extracted oil that we keep unfiltered, preserving its natural character as much as possible.
Our groves are also home to olive trees more than 200 years old, living witnesses to generations of agricultural work. A selection of olives from these trees is used to make our Mas del Vilà Centenary Olive Oil, a very limited production that expresses the connection between our history and the present day.
The taste of tradition
Our Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the product that best represents the essence of Mas del Vilà: olives from our own harvest, cold extraction and careful production designed to preserve the oil's natural character.
Alongside it, we select other artisan products that share the same understanding of quality, origin and territory. These include artisan honey, artisan cheeses from the Pyrenees, herbal infusions and aromatic herbs, olives, nuts from the Baix Camp, salt from Gerri and other local specialities.
Not all of these products are made by us. We choose them from trusted small producers and artisans who share our values of quality, local origin, tradition and respect for the product.
Every flavour has an origin and a story. Our aim is to bring them together under one philosophy: authentic, carefully made products with a genuine connection to their place of origin.
Rooted in Vinyols i els Arcs
Mas del Vilà is more than a name: it is a place with deep roots. Our estate is located in Vinyols i els Arcs, in the heart of the Baix Camp, in a Mediterranean landscape where olive and hazelnut trees have shaped agricultural life for generations.
The proximity of the Mediterranean, the climate, the soil and the rhythm of the seasons define the environment in which our trees grow and are part of the identity of the products we make.
To discover Mas del Vilà is also to discover our land: agricultural, Mediterranean and deeply connected to our family history.
A story that continues
For us, Mas del Vilà is more than a brand. It is the continuation of a family story connected to farming, olive oil and the trade of quality products.
Generation after generation, this story has evolved while keeping the same way of doing things: respect for origin, honest work, close relationships and trust.
Today we continue to care for our olive groves, produce our Extra Virgin Olive Oil and select artisan products that share these same values.
